This month I want to discuss the process of success that may be applied to anything in your life. There are certain success principals that work no matter who you are, what your education or which side of the tracks you’ve grown up on. My intention is to reveal and unveil some of these principals throughout 2007 until your dreams become reality! Ready to succeed?Remember, if you like what you read please pass it on to your friends and co-workers.

  • NEVER FEAR SUCCESS OR FAILURE
Some people are actually afraid of success just as much as failure. If they become too successful they may wonder what their friends will say or how others will begin to act around them. (By the way, the definition of too successful is when you are more successful than the person telling you that you are too successful) Many people are afraid of success because they have seen it ruin so many others, even some of their friends. Success does not have to ruin you. As you approach success with balance, all areas of your life and the lives of people around you will benefit. As you lead by example, you and others around you will transition to higher heights and everyone will profit.

    FAILURE DOESN’T REALLY EXIST
Don’t be afraid of success and do not be afraid of failure. As I’ve said previously, failure is an event, NOT a person. It’s just something that happens, it’s not who you are. The only true way to learn is to walk thru experiences that others may perceive as failures and find a way to become better because of them. There is no reason to fear failure because with the right mindset, failing doesn’t even exist. Think about this, if your mindset is that of a learner and a discoverer – just like Thomas Edison who never failed, but in his own words, DISCOVERED 10,000 ways that didn’t work before inventing the light bulb, then for you, failing doesn’t exist. Learning exists and discovering exists but failing is not even in your thought process. You WILL learn from your experiences and you WILL discover things that will help you grow, but failing is now out of your vocabulary.

THE ONLY WAY TO PERCEIVE FAILURE
The only way that failure can even be recognized is if lessons are not learned and discoveries are not made from your experiences OR even worse, lessons ARE learned but not implemented to help you in your next endeavor, moving you closer to your goal! Franklin D. Roosevelt said – “The only thing to fear is fear itself.” Babe Ruth said – “Never let the fear of striking out get in your way”, in essence – go for it. I ran into a friend the other day who works with a couple of guys I used to go to school with and they were telling my friend about my baseball career in school. They told him that Henry was the type of player who would either strike out or hit a home run but wasn’t afraid to put it all on the line and swing the bat. What type of player are you?

WILL YOU STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND SWING?
Can you think back to a time when a new idea or a new opportunity came your way and you didn’t even take a swing? And why? Were you afraid? We so often hear about the ones that are hit out of the park but we seldom hear of all the strike outs! Wouldn’t you agree? However, life is a process and it seems you almost have to swing the bat a few times and learn from new opportunities (even if they all don’t work out like you had anticipated) before you hit the ball. Babe Ruth carried a batting average of around 350. That means that he hit the ball 35% of the time and didn’t hit the ball 65% of the time. Even though he missed more than he hit, he made history by swinging at more pitches than not. To break that down even further, he would only hit the ball every third time at bat. Now let me ask you this, once Babe Ruth knew his own average and new that he would probably only hit the ball one out of every three times at bat, do you think after he got a hit in a game he then skipped his next two times at bat so that he would be sure to get a hit the next time he was at bat? NO, he had to go through the process. He hit once and struck out twice, hit once and struck out twice, hit once and struck out twice, a process that put him in the history books! He knew the process and understood that each strike out brought him closer to a home run! How do you view strike outs in your life?

WILL YOU GO THROUGH THE PROCESS?
My Mentor Paul J. Meyer started over 130 companies of which just 30 were successful, HOWEVER, of those 30, one of his companies has done over 2.5 BILLION, with a “B”, 2.5 Billion dollars in sales worldwide!!! Are you willing to learn and discover to get to your goal! How willing? How tenacious are you? How many times will you swing at the ball before hitting? How many times will you step up to the plate – even if you’ve just struck out?You will get a hit, but the number of times it will take is in direct proportion to what you learn and implement each time you’re at bat!!! NIKE says, “Just do it”! Will you just do it? I think you will.

    FROM A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE
For a child of God, this teaching opens up even further.Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (NASB)Think about that for a minute. GOD CAUSES EVERYTHING TO WORK TOGETHER FOR YOUR GOOD!Besides the message of salvation, if the Bible was reduced to just one sentence and if that was the only sentence, it would be enough! Haven’t you seen things in your own life work out for your good – even when you didn’t think they would? I have. This teaching should eliminate any fear from your life and cause you to explore new opportunities – swing the bat and keep swinging – until your wildest dreams become your reality!
